What a week!! I was lucky enough to coach our Under 12 Girls on Wednesday. It was a fantastic feeling to be back coaching and even better feeling to see the girls excited and enthusiastic to be back.
I couldn’t get over how much they loved being out on the floor again. The teamwork, communication and comradery was exceptional!! Before and after the game I reminded the girls that we hadn’t played in just under 9 months so the most important thing to remember was to have fun!!
As coaches it is our responsibility to manage not only how the team is structured, substitutions, offensive & defensive plays but also the expectations of our players.
With the year that has been it is important to just appreciate the fact we are back as a community of basketball players & friends.
For those lucky enough to be involved in our online session with Mitch Creek from the SEM Phoenix he talked a lot about his experience of playing basketball from a young age until now.
I hit him up and asked him "what is the best piece of advice you have from any coach along the way?"
He responded with "10 perfect reps are better than 1000 average reps, practice perfect habits day in, day out. You don't want to waste time during practice as you won't always be able to play this beautiful game the way we want".
This is a great statement, we want to ensure as coaches that we are educating ourselves on having the correct information to feed down to our players.
